The Queen's Chamber Band plays new music by Native Americans at the Smithsonian Institution.
Elaine Comparone takes her stand-up harpsichord and Queen's Chamber Band To Washington, D.C. for a command performance of George Quincy's Pocahontas at the Court of James I, presented in collaboration with The Smithsonian Associates. Soprano Roberta Gumbel and countertenor Marshall Coid repeat the starring roles they created in performances at New York City's Merkin Hall in 2006 and 2007. Mr. Quincy's Choctaw heritage qualifies him for this special performance at Washington's National Museum of the American Indian. Composer Dawn Avery, of Mohawk heritage, contributes Trance Music, an instrumental work premiered by The Queen's Chamber Band also at Merkin Hall in 2001. Jean-Philippe Rameau's Chaconne from his opera Les Indes Galantes contributes an 18th century flavor to the program.
