Featured composers: Donald Hagar, Hanna Levy, David MacDonald, William Foster McDaniel & Johann Sebastian Bach.
Harpsichord Unlimited presents harpsichordist Elaine Comparone & The Queen's Chamber Band in the group's annual New Music concert at Merkin Concert Hall, 129 West 67th Street on June 4, 2008 at 8 PM. Members of the Band for this performance include flutist Karla Moe, oboist Marsha Heller, violinists Robert Zubrycki & Lori Miller, violist Veronica Salas, 'cellist Peter Seidenberg and guest artist Tomoya Aomori, double bassist. Commissioned works by composers Donald Hagar, Hanna Levy, David MacDonald and William Foster McDaniel receive their world premieres interspersed with selections from Johann Sebastian Bach's Art of Fugue, long an inspiration to composers and instrumentalists alike. Guest artist, soprano Sharla Nafziger, joins the Band in Hanna Levy's "Ivory Lace Music" while Donald Hagar's offering features a sonata for the dynamic duo of violist Salas and harpsichordist Comparone. David MacDonald's piece for all the Band's instrumentalists hearkens back to Baroque forms while William Foster McDaniel's piece for the Queen's Chamber Trio ( violinist Zubrycki, 'cellist Seidenberg & harpsichord Comparone) takes its inspiration from jazz and ragtime.
Tickets for reserved seating: General Admission: $25; Seniors, Students & Musicians: 1/2 Price.
